Small Table Lamp
When ever we go to Wal-mart or K-mart, I am always looking at lamps -- styles, colors, shapes -- and at their furniture in stock. I am always finding simple little things that I can design in PSP. I saw some cute little painted, wrought iron-type lamps that were about 18 inches high, and they gave me this idea. #1 -- Open a NEW image 200X200, transparent background. #2 -- First, I am going to do the lamp shade in an ivory color (neutral color here works best). Make the foreground color #eecb6e and the background color #f6e7bc. #3 -- Click on your Preset Shapes Tool and locate the Rectangle shape. CHECK Create as Vector and line width 1. Make a rectangle towards the top center of your canvas. I used the gray/white squares as a guide and made my shade 4X4 squares.
#4 -- Holding down the Control key, left click on the top right Node and move it in slightly to angle the top of the rectangle. Click the Vector layer and Convert to Raster.
#5 -- Selections/Select ALL. Selections/Float. Edit/3D/Cutout and use these settings; Vertical 3, Horizontal 3, Opacity 25, Blur 15 and color BLACK. Select NONE.
#6 -- Plan what color you want your lamp to be. I am making mine a blue color. Change your foreground to your outline color, I will use #0000ff and change your background color to a lighter shade for the main lamp color, I will be using #1482fa. #7 -- Add a NEW Raster layer. Using the Preset Shapes Tool, still with the rectangle, UNcheck the Create as Vector, we won't need it now. Make a long narrow rectangle for the center lamp pole.
#7 -- Drag this layer BELOW the lamp shade layer. #8 -- Selections/Select ALL. Selections/Float. Edit/3D/Cutout and use SAME settings. Select NONE. #9 -- Add a NEW Raster layer. Make a small rectangle at the base of the center pole. #10 -- Selections/Select ALL. Selections/Float. Edit/3D/Cutout and use these settings; Vertical -3, Horizontal -3, Opacity 25, Blur 5 and color BLACK. Select NONE.
#11 -- DUPLICATE. Move this layer up just UNDER the lamp shade. Use the Deform Tool to slide one side inward a bit. Center on pole making sure part of it is UNDER the lamp shade..
#12 -- Click on the Preset Shapes Tool and locate the ELLIPSE shape, keeping the SAME settings as before. Add a NEW Raster layer. #13 -- Make a small oval ACROSS the pole. Selections/Select ALL. Selections/Float. Edit/3D/Cutout and use SAME settings as above. Select NONE. #14 -- With the Mover Tool, position it slightly ABOVE the base. DUPLICATE. Move this oval up, just under the top rectangle.
#15 -- Click on your Tube Tool and in the drop down window, go to Artistic Tubes and locate the Rope Tube #16 -- Add a NEW Raster layer. ZOOM in to about 300%. Draw a small line DOWN from the shade to the lenght you want your light pull to be. Make sure this layer is BELOW the shade layer. I also made a knot near the end to make it look more like a tassel.
#17 -- Merge/Merge Visible. #18 -- You can stop here and Export as a tube. You now have a small lamp for a night stand.
