Rah! Rah!
Pennant

RAH! RAH! SIS BOOM BAH!! Sports season is around the corner.
Cowboys, 49ers, Patriots, Dolphins!! My fav teams are the
Detroit Lions (due to I am originally from Michigan) and the
Los Angeles Raiders. I met and fell in love with Lyle Alzados,
#77, and his lovely wife when I lived in Southern California back
in the late 80's. Remember the pennants on long dowels waving
in the air at school games? Well, now you can make your own banner
and add what ever you want on it.

#1 First, pick two colors you want to use for your pennant. For this
tutorial, I will be using a simple RED #ff0000 for my background
color, my foreground NULL.

#2 Open a NEW image 300X500. This will give you plenty of
room to work with and we will crop it later.

#3 Click on your Preset Shapes Tool and locate the TRIANGLE, create as
Vector CHECKED. Starting at the TOP, make a long, narrow triangle for
most of the length of your canvas. Leaving about 100 pixel space at the
bottom. Then go to Image/Rotate and Rotate 90 degrees to the RIGHT.

#4 If you need to adjust your pennant, you can click on the Nodes to adjust
the width on the left and the center right Node for the length. But do NOT
move close to the left side, as we will be using that in a few. Right click on
your Vector layer and Convert to Raster.

#5 Add a NEW Raster layer. Keeping the foreground NULL, change the
background color to a complimentory color. I will be using a gold, #fed03c.
Using your Preset Shapes Tool again, locate the RECTANGLE, Create as
Vector UNchecked. Make a narrow rectangle the length of the
left side of your pennent.

#6 Add a Drop Shadow using the settings below. MAKE sure
Shadow on New Layer is CHECKED.

#7 HIDE you top layer with the RED X (this will be your gold rectangle),
making sure that the SHADOW layer is still highlighted. Using the
Selections Tool make a rectangle around the shadow, leaving a THIN
section UNtouched. Click the DELETE key ONCE. Select NONE. UNHIDE the
top layer. This will keep a slight shadow where the two colors meet.

#8 Add a NEW layer.Using your Preset Shapes Tool again, RECTANGLE,
Create as Vector CHECKED. Make a narrow rectangle extending OUT from
the left side of your pennent.Click on the PEN Tool and holding down the
CONTROL key, add TWO nodes (see image below).

#9 Clicking on the far LEFT Nodes, pull them downwards (see image below).
Click on the Vector layer and Convert to Raster layer.

#10 DUPLICATE. Using the Deform Tool, turn this tab so that it
tilts ABOVE the lower tab. Select NONE.

#11 HIDE all layers EXCEPT the top two tab layers. Making sure to
click on one of the tab layers to make it active,
Merge/Merge Visible. UNHIDE the other layers.

#12 Add a Drop Shadow using the same settings. MAKE sure Shadow on
New Layer is CHECKED.HIDE you top layer with the RED X (this will be
your gold tabs), making sure that the SHADOW layer is still highlighted.
Using the Selections Tool make a rectangle around the shadow that
is to the LEFT of the pennant. Click the DELETE key ONCE. Select NONE.
UNHIDE the top layer. This will keep a slight
shadow where the tab meets the trim.

#13 HIDE all layers except the top two. Making sure to
click on one of the tab layers to make it active,
Merge/Merge Visible. UNHIDE the other layers.DUPLICATE.
Click on this layer and DRAG down to position
it lower on your pennant edge.

#14 Your pennant is now done. Merge/Merge Visible and
save as a tube for later use. You can also add any text
or logo to decorate your pennant.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
