Animated Book
This tutorial is done with Paint Shop Pro 9.
This tutorial is for more advanced users of Paint Shop Pro, so I assume you
know where the tools are located and I am not including screen shots of them.

Open a new canvas 500 W x 250 H. This will give you enough workspace to work in. First create your book cover......Selection Tool, rounded rectangle and make the rectangle the size that you want your book to be. Name this layer COVER. My book size is 171 W x 182 H NOTE: Remember to save this work canvas as a .psp image. We will separate pages later on. Duplicate your cover layer TWICE; once for a page, name this layer PAGE 1 and again for the back cover, name this BACK. Since we are working with multiple layers, SAVE every few steps so that you do not loose your work and need to start over completely. |

Click on your COVER layer and decorate it as you want. When you are satisfied with it SAVE. You can choose what kind of binder you want on your book edge; make a NEW layer and name it BINDER. I just did a rounded rectangle and used Super Blade Pro for the gold effect, but you can make it how you want it to be. Highlight your PAGE 1 layer, add a NEW raster layer, go to preset shapes/rectangle, background color WHITE and make a rectangle where you want your photo to be. To get the picture corners..add a NEW raster layer, go to preset shapes/triangle, background color BLACK. Use the Deform tool if necessary to get the triangle to look better. Duplicate your triangle and use Mirror. merge these two layers ONLY. Then duplicate and Flip, adjust position. RED X all layers EXCEPT the CORNER, white rectangle and Page 1 layers. Merge visible. SAVE |

Close out (RED X) all layers except for your PAGE 1, make sure this layer is highlighted. Opened the pics that you want on your pages. I am going to use eight photos, but you can have as few as two. I would not use more than eight as it will make the animation larger and can bog down dial-up servers. |

Duplicate your PAGE 1 layer for ever how many pages you will be using. Close out all but the first one (we will be doing them one at a time). With the Magic Wand, click inside the white area. Click on your first image, edit/copy, then click on you workspace and paste/into selection. If you are pleased with your page, select none. SAVE. Do this til your pages are all completed. |

Check each layer to be sure your photos are in the correct order that you want them. Hoping that you left all the pages in the SAME place, your photos should align properly in each layer. Add your COVER on top. Then add your BINDER. |

Now we are ready to start saving our frames for animation. |

The first thing to do is organize your pages ..so click each page...arrange and send to the order you want them to be in. After you get them in the order you want them you will want to stack them in a neat pile on the right of your workspace. Last one to add is your cover....save as a gif.. this is your first frame. Save it as book1.gif Once saved as a gif everything is merged. |

Now lets turn some pages. Activate your cover page..go to the deform tool
and drag in your cover a 1/4 of the way. Then holding down the control button
click on the right bottom corner ..pull it down a little bit. Make sure when pulling your corners you are still getting
a straight edge between the two corners..you don't want your book edge
to get on an angle.
NOTICE..how the top and bottom corners of your page appear above and below the page behind it..this is the effect you are looking to achieve. This is your second frame. Save AS book2.gif |

Repeat what you did above to move the page in more..using the deform
tool to drag it in and distort to again change the corners. Move the BINDER layer underneath your cover layer. Save as book3.gif |

Now find the picture that goes behind your cover page..that you had
earlier set aside...drag it in place as shown, putting it on the left side.

Again ..same proceedure...Click on the right side image.....deform tool/drag right side inwards 1/2 of the way/hold down control button and pull
down bottom right corner..
Save as book5.gif Then Delete this layer. |

With the Mover tool, click on your next image and slide it over onto the left side image.

Repeat the above steps for each image.... right image/deform tool. Save as. Delete deformed image, move next image to left. Save this new layout as a new .gif |

When you are to the BACK of your book, you can decorate it as you wish..... Then remember to CLOSE your book using the same steps....right image/deform tool. Save as. Delete deformed image, move a BLANK back image to left. Save this new layout as a new .gif |

Last step..put the back of your book on...do not do anything to it
other than lay it over the page that is laying there..merge all/save/
Thats it...you are all done! You have all of your frames for animating. Now take it into Animation Shop . Now the more pages you are using..the larger your file is going to be..be sure to use the optimization save feature to cut down on the file size. Remember, you will need to adjust the speed of your frames. For the "turning page" frames I used 35 and for the "open pages" I used 50, so they can be viewed. |
