Watermellon and Crow
The final Crow image will be yours to use as you wish for tubes, sigs or in other images as long as they are for non-prophet purposes. Just, please, do not claim them as your own idea. If you want to use it for monetary gain, please contact me for permission.
I created this tutorial using PSP 9. And I am under the impression that you know the functions involved with Vectors. When I mention the start/ending numbers I, also, assume that you know they are located near the bottom right of your screen.
Due to the number of Screen Shots for this tutorial, I have split it into 3-4 pages to make it easier for those who have Dial-up Servers..
Open a new image 300X400, WHITE background and name this BACKGROUND, this will make your image easier to see.
We will be making each layer separately until we get to the finer points. Remember to SAVE a lot during this tutorial.
HAT
Preset Shapes Tool.. Ellipse...antialias and Create as Vector BOTH checked, solid line, foreground AND background colors the SAME. I am using a deep red, #C13D2F, but you can use any color for the hat that you prefer. Starting at x9y9, hold down the SHIFT key (this will make a circle instead of the oval) and drag down and to the right til you get to x233y233. You will have a red circle.
You can use the Pen Tool to shape your circle if you need to. Then position it towards the top center of your canvas.
Promote the Vector layer and rename it HAT.
Selections/Select All then Selections/Float.
Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Weave. Use the settings below.
To add a little dimention to the straw hat you can go to Effects/3-D/Inner Bevel. Use the settings below.
I added a slight Drop Shadow with these settings.. Vertical 3, Horizontal 5, Opacity 70, Blur 8 and BLACK.
Selections/Select None
SAVE as a pspimage
BODY
Click on the Preset Shapes Tool keeping the same settings as above. Only change your foreground AND background colors to BLACK.
Starting at x18y196 and drag down and to the right til you get to x263y350. You will have a black oval. We can shape it later if needed.
Promote the Vector layer and rename it BODY.
I made this layer invisible at this point to make it easier to see the other sections as I do them. As you already know, black on black is hard to see... :) We will use it later.

HEAD
Click on the Preset Shapes Tool keeping the same settings as above. Keeping your foreground AND background colors BLACK.
Starting at x68y58 and drag down and to the right til you get to x204y188. You will have a black circle. You can position it in the center of the HAT if you prefer, I kept mine a little off center.
Promote the Vector layer and rename it HEAD.
