Hand Drawn Stocking
This is going to be an easy tutorial, even if you feel you are not good at freehand drawing, this will be easy. I will give you loads of Screen Shots for each step so you can see your progress. You will be doing this in LAYERS so remember to SAVE often. #1 Pick a nice Christmasy color for your foreground and a dark color for your background. This is your stocking, so use the colors of your choice. I am using a nice red (#ff0000) for my MAIN color and a dark green (#0c7e0c) for my ACCENT color. #2 Open a New image 300X300. We will resize it later. #3 With your Paintbrush Tool, using the settings below, draw a stocking. It does not need to be perfect.
#4 Using your Magic Wand, use the following settings....
Click INSIDE your stocking, then go to Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Flood Fill with your MAIN stocking color. Then go to Effects/Texture Effects/Texture. Here you can apply any Texture effect that you would like for your stocking. I am using a Fur01 texture, but you choose what you like, so I will not give you any specific settings this time. #5 KEEPING it still SELECTED, go to Selections/Float. Then Effects/3D/Cutout and use these setting..... You will need to change the Shadow Color to a darker shade than you are using. ![]() Repeat the CUTOUT changing the Horizontal & Vertical to -4 (MINUS 4). Select None. Name this layer STOCKING. SAVE now. #6 Add a NEW Raster layer, naming it TOE, you might want to ZOOM in closer so that you can see what you are doing. Make your ACCENT color your foreground color. Using your FREEHAND Selection Tool, outline where you want your TOE to be. If the Marching Ants go outside of the original toe area, do not worry, as stockings can stretch out of shape over time.
#7 Flood Fill this with your ACCENT color. Apply the SAME texture you used for the stocking. Selections/Float, then CUTOUT using the SAME setting. Repeat the CUTOUT changing the Horizontal & Vertical to -4 (MINUS 4). Select NONE. SAVE now. #8 Add a NEW Raster layer, naming it HEEL. Using your FREEHAND Selection Tool, outline where you want your HEEL to be.
#9 Flood Fill this with your ACCENT color. Apply the SAME texture you used for the stocking. Selections/Float, then CUTOUT using the SAME setting. Repeat the CUTOUT changing the Horizontal & Vertical to -4 (MINUS 4). Select NONE. SAVE now. #10 Add a NEW Raster layer, naming it CUFF. Change your foreground color to WHITE. Using your FREEHAND Selection Tool, outline where you want your CUFF to be.
#11 Flood Fill this with your WHITE. I want my CUFF to be fuzzy, so I am using a Fur setting. Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Fur and use the settings below.
#12 Selections/Float, then the CUTOUT settings, changing the OPACITY to 50 and the Shadow Color to a light grey #c0c0c0. Repeat the CUTOUT changing the Horizontal & Vertical to -4 (MINUS 4). Select NONE. SAVE now. #13 Merge/Merge Visible and then go to File/Export and save as a tube.
