Polar Bear
My hubby and I were watching a TV show where there was an action scene at a Zoo. I commented that the animals could be done in rectangles, squares and ovals. And I got another great idea. Hense this tutorial. I am doing a set of Zoo animals in Vectors and hand drawn, some will be in both techniques. Here begins the start of my Zoo Collection. This is my own idea and creation. Any resemblance to any other tutorial is strictly coencidental. Open a new canvas 450X300, I want to have extra space to work with, but it can be trimmed when you am done. Flood Fill this layer with Black so that you can see your work. Name this layer BACKGROUND. Add a NEW layer and name this one OUTLINE. Click on your Preset Shapes Tool (the Chat Bubble) and scroll through the Drop Down window for Ellipse. Foregrround color #E0E0E0, background color NULL, antialias and Create as Vector BOTH checked, solid line and line width 2. Make an oval across most of the width of your canvas. You should have a gray outlined oval. Click on the Pen Tool. Holding down the Control key, add NODES at intervals around the oval. You will be pulling these to shape your Polar Bear and two of the legs. ![]() When you are happy with how this looks, Convert to Raster layer and name this BODY. Use the Magic Wand and click on the INSIDE of the Polar Bear. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Flood Fill with white. Add a new Layer, SHADING. Selections/Float. Effects/3-D/Cutout using thse settings-- Vertical1 Horizontal 1 Opacity 100 Blur 30 color a shade darker than your outline, I use #808080. Deselect. Make a NEW layer, FRONT LEG. With Ellips still selected, make a small circle above the front leg, by the chest area. We are going to make the other front leg. Click on the Pen Tool and add a few NODES and posititon them how you want the leg to be. I am making mine look like she is walking. Pull on the ARROWS to help in shaping the paw. ![]() Use the Magic Wand and click on the INSIDE of the paw. Selections/Modify/Expand by 1. Flood Fill with white. Add a new layer for shading. Selections/Float. Effects/3-D/Cutout using thse settings-- Vertical1 Horizontal 1 Opacity 100 Blur 30 color a shade darker than your outline, I use #808080. Deselect. Drag this layer BELOW the BODY layer. Make a NEW layer, BACK LEG. With Ellips still selected, make a small circle infront of the back leg. We are going to make the other back leg. Click on the Pen Tool and add a few NODES and posititon them how you want the leg to be. Pull on the ARROWS to help in shaping the leg. ![]() Use the Magic Wand and click on the INSIDE of the leg. Deselect. ![]() Drag this layer BELOW the BODY layer. Highlight the top layer, this should be the BODY layer, and add a NEW layer. Change the Foreground color to a dark gray, I am using #606060. Add the NOSE, MOUTH, and EYE. Delete the Background layer and Merge/Merge Visible. Resize to 300X200. Now you can save as a tube if you wish. I hope you enjoyed making this Polar Bear and add start your own Zoo Collection.
