This tutorial is my own creation and any resemblance to any other is strictly coincidental. I used PSP 9, but I am sure that you could use versions 7 or 8 and get the same results.
I did use a Brown Sugar Pattern for the Wings. If you do not have this Pattern, I have included it here. Just save it as a .pspimage and then copy it to your PSP Patterns folder.

It is written step-by-step for easy following. I have included lots of screen shots that are sized for easy loading. I tried to keep this as simple as possible for anyone to follow the directions.
I hope that you already have working knowledge of PSP. I have used Eye Candy 3.1 Glass effect. If you have another plug-in and would like to use it instead, please feel free to do so.
Open a new image 500X500, transparent. Do not worry about the size, as we will resize it smaller when we are done.
Set foreground color to Pattern Brown Sugar, background to Null
Add a new layer and name this WING.
Click on the Preset Shapes Tool; go to Ellipse, antialias checked. Width 5. Start at the top left corner of the canvas and draw an elongated ellipse -- 225x75 pixels
(watch on the lower right side of the bar and you can see the size you are drawing).
Go to Effects/3D/Inner Bevel and use the following setting....

Add a new layer and name this HEART.
Click on the Preset Shapes Tool; go to Heart 3 (this will be the heart outline), antialias checked. Width 5. Starting at the top left corner, draw a heart about 130 pixels high by 80 wide. Go to IMAGE/free Rotate, click Left 90. Make sure that ALL LAYERS is Unchecked. Use the Mover Tool to position the heart over the oval wing section.
Go to Effects/3D/Inner Bevel and use the same settings as above.
Use the Deformation Tool to flatten so the heart so that it fits in the ellipse, and to stretch so it fits the long way, as shown. It will take a couple of tries to get the heart to the right shape. Your wing should now look like this.....

SAVE in a psp format. Remember to SAVE often.
When you have the heart the way you want it, Merge/Merge Visible. Name this layer WING. Duplicate.
Using the Deform Tool, position this wing so that the points of the hearts are close to matching. Merge/Merge Visible. See image below.

Then duplicate this layer. Go to Image/Mirror. Merge/Merge Visible and rename this layer WINGS.
Add a new layer and name this HEAD.
Click on the Preset Shapes Tool; go to Ellipse, antialias checked. Width 5. Start at the top left corner of the canvas and draw a circle about 99 pixels across. Go to Effects/3D/Inner Bevel and use the same settings.
Now, I know this looks odd with the circle covering the wing, but do not fret. Highlight the HEAD layer, then click on the Mover Tool. Position the circle top center of the canvas, but dropping it down slightly. Then, click on the WINGS and position them just below the HEAD. See image below.

SAVE.
Click on the HEAD layer and duplicate. Highlight the head COPY. Go to Image/Resize and resize by 90%. Make sure that Resize All Layers is Unchecked.
Highlight the head COPY. Duplicate. Go to Image/Resize and resize by 90%. Make sure that Resize All Layers is Unchecked.
Repeat the above step until you have five circles. Your screen should now look like this.....

SAVE.
Using your Mover Tool, position the rings below the WINGS to form the body. Making sure to overlap the circles slightly.

Click on the EYE in the Layer Palette and RED X the WING and HEAD layers. Highlight on of the COPY layers and Merge/Merge Visible. Name this layer BODY. Make the WING and HEAD layers visible again.
Make a new layer and name this BACK. Change the foreground AND background to the Brown Sugar Pattern. Go to Preset Tools and select the Rounder Rectangle shape. We are going to make a small rectangle in the space where the HEAD, WINGS and BODY connect. You will now have a square-ish brown shape. Go to Effects/3D/Inner Bevel and use the same settings. You might need to use the Deform Tool to adjust the square a bit, making sure it BARELY overlaps the WINGS and circles. Below I have just this section so that you can see.SAVE.

So far, you have the basic Dragonfly body shape. I use SHIFT-D to make a copy then save it so that I can make a new Dragonfly with different colors later on. I save this in a psp format. Now comes the fun part, giving your Dragonfly some color.
Highlight the BODY layer. Set the foreground color to the color of your choice, background NULL. With the Magic Wand, click on the inside of a circle (at this point, it does not matter which circle, as you will be placing the colors where you want them to go). Open a NEW layer and with the Flood Fill Tool fill inside the Marching Ants. Do NOT deselect.
Go to Effects/Plug-ins/Eye Candy, choose the Glass effect and change to the following settings.

(If you want to keep these settings, you can save them by clicking the small Save icon (circled in red) and naming it whatever you wish.) PLEASE note, you will have to change the color in Eye Candy to match the color you use for EACH bead EVERY TIME.
Deselect. Highlight the BODY layer. Change the foreground to a new color, use the Magic Wand inside another circle, add a NEW layer, Flood Fill with new color, and use Inner Bevel with above settings and Deselect. Repeat this step for the rest of the BODY circles.
Highlight the HEAD layer, make a NEW layer and repeat as you did for the BODY circles. When you are done, Deselect.
Click on the EYE next to the HEAD, BODY, WING and BACK layers to make then invisible. You should ONLY have the colored beads visible now. Highlight one of the RASTER layers and then Merge/Merge Visible, name this BEADS. With this BEADS layer still highlighted, lower the Opacity. I lowered mine to 54, but you can lower yours to what looks best for you.SAVE.
Make all the layers visible again. Highlight the BEADS layer and drag it below the HEAD layer. Your layers should now look like this....

At this point, I Merge/Merge Visible and name this layer DRAGONFLY. We are almost done, just need to add the antennae.
Depending on how much space you now have, you might want to make your canvas a bit larger, to give you more working space. Go to Images/Canvas Size, I made mine 550X550 as I do not need that much more room.
Add a NEW layer and reset your foreground to the Brown Sugar Pattern. Click on the Pen Tool, Draw Freehand, line width 5, antialias checked. Making sure that the new layer is highlighted, draw an antenna at the top of the HEAD.
Go to Preset Shapes Tool and choose the solid HEART shape. I used HEART 1.
Make sure that both foreground AND backgrounds are set with the Brown Sugar Pattern. Make a NEW layer. Then add a small HEART at the tip of the antenna. Use the Deform Tool to position the heart, turning it slightly if needed. Making sure the heart layer is highlighted go to Merge/Merge Down. This will connect the heart to the antenna.
Go to Effects/3D/Inner Bevel and use the same setting above that you used for the WINGS. SAVE.
Duplicate this layer, and then go to Image/Mirror. Use the Mover Tool to adjust the position if needed. Merge/Merge Visible.SAVE.
Go to Image/Resize. I sized mine to 350, then Adjust/Sharpen. You can save as a tube at this point if you wish. Plus, you can add a drop shadow to your liking.
Now, just add a new layer to add your name and you have a lovely Dragonfly sig....*S*
