Locating Folders

I taught a mini class and some of the students would save an image (or tube) and then could not find it. So, this gave me the idea for this tutorial on how to find images/files when they become "lost".

All folders should be organized, it will make life a whole lot easier for you. Even if you organize a couple each day. My best friend made a comment and it went something like this (not exact wording) "Folders are like putting papers in a 6-drawer filing cabinette and just throwing papers in as you get them. Then you need something six months later; good luck finding it.... LOL"

Have you ever saved an tube, or image, or text file, and then could not find it? Did you ever wonder how to access a folder to use in PSP (say tubes or plug-in)? This tutorial will show you how.

There are three ways, that I know of, to locate files. I will be discussing all three here. If you do not want to read them in order, just click on the numbered title and you will be taken to that topic.

3 ways to locate files/folders

  1. Accessing folders to use in PSP
  2. Locating files using Start/Explore
  3. Locating files using the Search method

1. Accessing folders to use in PSP

NOTE: You do not want all your extra folders connected to PSP all at the same time, as this will really bog down the program. Your main folders STAY in your Jasc PSP 7, 8, 9 (or Corel for PSPX and later PSP versions) program folder. I store all my new folders under My Documents/My Tubes (in appropriate folders). Then I add the appropriate folder title where it belongs. This also helps you organize folders so that they are not in other folders in other areas on your hard drive. (I will not get into File Organizing at this time, as that already is a good friends fort'e.)

1. Let's say you are in PSP and you want to add a fish tube to an image that you are working on and it is not in your Tubes selections. First off, you click on Files then scroll down to Preferences, then you will get the following scroll window.......

2. Scroll over and down to File Locations. Click on it and you will now get this window...

3. In the left-hand column (File Types) scroll down to Picture Tubes (#1) and click on it. You should see two folder locations already listed in your main window. These are from your Jasc PSP program folder and your My Documents/My PSP Files folder, they are automatically connected to PSP. Now, go up to the right and click on Add (#2). You will get a NEW window

4. This is where you will look for the fish folder you will need. My fish folder is located under C:Documents and Settings/Kami/My Documents/My PSP Files/Picture Tubes. Since I do not want ALL the tubes to be connected, I just scroll down and click on the "fish" folder (#3). This way, ONLY the fish tubes will be added to my Tube Tool in PSP. Click Okay. Now you will see your Fish folder is listed. Go to the bottom and click Okay.

This is how you add folders without bogging down your PSP. You do the same steps for any extra folders that you will make for Gradients, Patterns, Plug-ins, Masks, etc..

To remove an unwanted folder, just repeat steps 1 & 2, then highlight the folder you want removed, click Remove and then Okay.
