Windows XP and JAVA

Do you have Windows XP and find that JAVA Scripts do not work? Are you working on JAVA codes and then find you get a yellow bar across the top with this warning -- "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options....." ? Do you know how to correct this so it does not appear again, so that you can work on your JAVA codes, even off line?

Do You Have JAVA on Your Computer?

If you are running Windows XP, you probably do not have JAVA.
I didn't and had to download it.

To install JAVA, click HERE .
Click the JAVA download button, it will take you to another page. Click BEGIN DOWNLOAD and follow the step by step instructions. It is very easy to follow.

#1 Open your Windows Browser. Does not matter if you click on the Explorer icon on your Desktop or if you have a HTML file open, just as long as you have a Browser open.

#2 Go to the top and click on TOOLS. Scroll down to Internet Options and click on it.

#3 You will get a pop-up window with seven tabs, scroll to the far right and click on the ADVANCED tab.

#3 Scroll down the list until you get to the Java {Sun}. There should only be ONE box there, make sure it is CHECKED. Click APPLY then click OKAY.

#4 Close all your windows and programs. Reboot your computer.
Now you have JAVA installed and working.

Temporary Correction

If you do not want to make this correction permenant, you will have to do these steps EACH time you use your Browser when working on codes.

#1 Right click on Start (in the lower left corner of your Task Bar). Scroll up to Explore. This is where you can look through your files. Locate the folder that has your HTML file with the JAVA codes. Double click on that file to open it.

#2 When you open the page this way, you will get a yellow bar across the top of your page -- "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your compputer. Click here for options....." .

#3 When you hover your cursor over this bar, it will turn BLUE. Click on it. Then you will get a drop down box like below.....

#4 Clic on "Allow Blocked Content". You will get a pop-up window from Security Warning, click YES. Now you can work and your JAVA codes will work. Just remember that when ever you re-open a HTML file with JAVA codes, that you will need to repeat these steps.

To Make JAVA Settings Permenant

Are you getting tired of doing the above steps every time you work with JAVA codes? Do you want to make the change permenant and not worry about doing something wrong with your computer setting? Well, here is how you can do it.

#3 Scroll down until you get to the SECURITY list. Look for "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" and CHECK that box. It should be the second item, but look around just in case. Click APPLY then click OKAY.

#4 Now close out ALL your windows and programs. When you reopen your files and use the Browser, now you will not get the yellow bar and all of your Java codes will work. You can even work off-line with no problems.
