In the beginning, the land was vast. The people were scattered, isolated, coming and going, not really having a home. Lord Sabastian had a dream, to bring together the people of three shires,to make one group, one home. He stood fast through set back after set back until his dream came true. In 1987 the Barony of Darkwood was now a reality. As time passed, 2 other cantons joined our Barony, making us stronger, making our family larger. In 1990, Baron Sabastian handed over the leadership of the Barony to Wilhelm and Betty, who became the new Baron and Baroness of Darkwood.

Our beloved Baron & Baroness have always been there for one & all. But times change---- people grow & people move on--- due to health or personal dreams. We are losing our great Baron Wilhelm and Baroness Elizabeth, but they are leaving behind-- yet another great legacy.

Baron Wilhelm was known for his Husscarls, his worthy fighters, and never turning down a challenge. He is also known for his great compassion for his Barony and it's people. And for always shepherding the barony to its current greatness.

Baroness Elizabeth is known for her kindness, compassion, and her interest in the Arts, and her gentle touch in tending a bud to its full bloom.

Both --have encouraged the populas to learn and to grow in many different areas. Always offering a multitude of classes, ranging from sewing to cooking, from armor making to fighting tactics, from page school to games for all ages, from calligraphy to Bardic, and many more, to numerous to name.

Our great -- and honourable Baron and Baroness have given this Barony -- at least 1/3 of their lives. They have not treated us like strangers, or as ships passing in the night. They have treated us all -- like family. This is what this Barony means to me, and should-- to all of us, that we are all one-- big-- family.

BUT -- this is not only a time for sorrow it is also a time for rejoicing. For we are not going to be "left alone," wandering aimlessly in the dark, not knowing what will happen next. For we are getting a new Baron and Baroness to lead us forward -- into the light.

Erich and Liesel have been in this Barony for a few years. They know this Barony and what will keep it growing and what will keep it strong.

For every old --- there is a new

For every light --- there is darkness

For every dying bush --- there is new growth

We ALL have worked with Baron Wilhelm and Baroness Elizabeth to make our Barony grow and prosper. Now, it is our turn to help the new Baron and Baroness. To give them respect, support, and to show them that we still love and care for our Barony, now, and if not more than before. For without our new beloved Baron and Baroness to watch over us -- and our lands, we would be like dust in the wind…
