16th century skull paternoster

Earlier this year I made my first paternoster (period rosary); I based my work from a 16th century Skull Rosary. (See photo on right.)

I sent my son, Leon, a photo of it, as he likes to see what projects I do. He thought it was "neat" and, appearently, showed it to some of his friends. To my surprise, I got my first commision on a skull based paternoster. It seems that his one freind, who is Catholic, does not like the modern rosaries that much. He asked if I could make one "with a couple requests"; using the skulls as gauds and adding his wedding ring as the connector. Seems his wife died six months ago and he wanted to keep it as a momento and thought that if I could add it to the paternoster, that he could still carry it. With Leon's help, we picked out a nice sterling silver crucifux as well.

I made this piece using garnet colored glass beads, bone skulls, a sterling silver crucifix and the wedding ring. I just hope that the recipient likes it as well when he receives it.
